How to Remove Glue and Adhesive Residue from Household Surfaces

· Santrel International

Sticker, tape and construction residues can be frustrating because the adhesive and the underlying surface require equal attention. The safest approach is gradual: identify the material, test the method and avoid aggressive scraping.

Identify both materials

Determine whether the residue is from a label, tape, glue or another adhesive. Then identify the surface beneath it: glass, metal, plastic, finished wood, ceramic or painted material.

Remove what lifts easily

Peel away loose material slowly. Use only tools that will not scratch the surface. Avoid metal blades unless the surface manufacturer explicitly recommends them.

Test the selected product

Choose a remover intended for the residue and compatible with the surface. Test it on a small hidden area. Check for discoloration, softening or a change in finish before treating the visible area.

Allow the product to work

Apply according to the label and respect the stated contact time. Gently wipe the softened residue, repeating the process if necessary rather than forcing it.

Finish the surface

Remove remaining product as directed, then clean and dry the area. Some surfaces may require a final rinse.

Safety reminder: Ventilate the area, keep the product away from heat and flames where applicable, never mix products and follow all label precautions.
