Ceramic tile is durable, but grout lines and textured surfaces can hold everyday residue. A consistent method helps clean the area without creating unnecessary wear.
Check the tile and grout
Confirm that the surface is ceramic and note whether the grout is sealed, unsealed, damaged or discoloured. Natural stone can resemble ceramic but may require very different care.
Remove dry debris first
Sweep or vacuum the area before adding moisture. This avoids turning dust into a film and helps the cleaner reach the surface.
Use a compatible cleaner
Select a product intended for ceramic and grout. Apply it according to the label and work in small sections. Use a non-scratching pad or an appropriate brush where needed.
Focus on grout lines
Agitate gently rather than relying on excessive pressure. Repeated harsh scrubbing can affect grout over time, especially if it is already weakened.
Rinse and dry
Remove the cleaning solution as directed and dry the area to reduce streaks. Good ventilation is especially useful in bathrooms.
Maintain the result
Wipe spills promptly, reduce standing water and inspect grout periodically. Repair deteriorated grout or sealant before moisture reaches the material underneath.
Always test the product first and follow the surface manufacturer's care instructions.
